Sealing
Stamped Concrete
So, you have Stamped Concrete and it's new, it's old, it's colored,
it's not, either way it's time to seal it and seal it with sealers
that are of a high performance design for this type of application.
This is not an option !
Stamped concrete is a delicate procedure and the finished product
needs to be sealed even more than everyday concrete surfaces. There
are quite a few claims of what to use and what is best.We have tested
over 300 sealers and here is what it comes down to.
What is your Objective?
That is, the finish you will want, flat and clear, sheen, shine or
a gloss. What is the traffic like, low or high, inside or outside,
these criteria will sometimes dictate the type of vehicle for a sealer
you will need to use and whether they will be Waterborne or Solvent
borne choices.
As a rule we see that most people want a shine to a gloss which can
be achieved by 1-2-3 coats of the Industra-Gloss WB ( inside ) or
SB ( outside ). There are other high-end performers available (call
for more information on those) that we use for projects like Amusement
parks, Hospitals, College Campuses, Commercial and Industrial environments.
If a clear flat looks is desired, the type of stamp is important and
there needs to be some porosity to receive the V-SEAL 101 or a matt
finish polymer like the MLT+ specialty coating. When in doubt, give
us a call !

Does Stamped Concrete Fade?
Cleaning and sealing stamped and colored concrete should be done
on a regular basis just like any other home maintenance. The frequency
will depend on how high a traffic area to cars, foot traffic, water,
and any chemicals the concrete is exposed to. We recommend resealing
every 2 or 3 years. If you wait longer, you may notice the color fade
slightly. But just like waxing a car, reseal your stamped concrete
and the color will be as vibrant as the day it was installed. If color
fades, there are ways to renew it, but keeping it sealed is your best
defense. Stamped concrete is one monolithic placement of concrete
eliminating full depth joints thus no ant hills or weeds to worry
about! Salt eats ALL types of masonry installations including concrete.
During the winter, use sand only.
