Delamination - Causes,
Prevention, Repair

Delamination is primarily caused by finishing the surface
of the concrete before bleed water and bleed air has had the chance
to escape. This creates "blisters" just under the surface that later
break down under traffic. Often the owner is unaware that there is a
delamination problem in his/her concrete until wear or traffic begins
to break down the surface. Delamination exposes the aggregate which
is much more susceptible to damage from weather and salt.
To preserve your concrete from further damage it is vital you apply
a good sealer right away. V-SEAL
can protect the exposed "blisters" where the aggregate is showing and
it can also provide greater strength to the blistered areas that have
not yet broken under traffic.
To completely repair the defective areas you might consider patching,
new surface overlay, or even epoxy injection. We have a variety of specialty
coatings that can help you repair delamination. If you choose not
to repair the patches, you should, at the very least, preserve the areas
with V-SEAL to help
keep your concrete from further breaking down.
